The goal of the RN educator is to successfully train and monitor daily home hemodialysis patients. The actual training schedule is not outlined here as you will find out that the schedule changes as you progress through the training.
In fact, the training schedule will largely depend on the approach your program has chosen. While many approaches have been tried our experience indicates that short daily (2.5-3.0 hrs); Monday to Friday has been the most successful as it appears to accommodate both staff and patients needs.
Home Hemodialysis training can last up to 6 weeks but depending on the patient experience it could last as little as 2 weeks. On average however, training is between 3 to 5 weeks.
Once the patient is trained and ready to go home, our home RN and technical staff (depending on the equipment used) will make arrangements with the patient to be present at home with the patient for the first two treatments.
